Magee plotting Dunne’s downfall

Bernard Dune’s mandatory challenger, Kiko Martinez looks set to get support from unlikely quarters ahead of their European super bantamweight title fight.

The unbeaten Spaniard has put pen to paper on a deal with Belfast man Pat Magee and a major English promoter. The irony of the situation is that Magee also manages Belfast light heavyweight Brian Magee. Magee is trained by Harry Hawkins, who of course also trains Bernard Dunne. Malignaggi heads the queue for Hatton

Paulie Malignaggi has emerged as the early frontrunner to be Ricky Hatton’s next opponent despite the predictable clamor for Manchester’s favourite son to share a ring with Floyd Mayweather or Oscar De La Hoya following his pummeling of Jose Luis Castillo at the weekend.

Superfights against Mayweather and De La Hoya, in addition to Puerto Rico’s unbeaten Miguel Cotto, appear unlikely unless Hatton is prepared to face them at welterweight, a division he turned his back on after he struggled to outpoint Luis Collazo when capturing the WBA welterweight crown last year.
