Birmingham’s British middleweight champion Wayne Elcock has pulled out of his title defence against Dudley’s Darren McDermott scheduled to take place at the Aston Events Centre next Friday (25 April) due to a severe chest infection. Show promoters Hennessy Sports will announce a new date for the re-arranged clash in due course.
“I am totally gutted to be out of this fight as until now training was going to plan and I felt absolutely fantastic. After the disappointment of my last fight against Arthur Abraham (which saw Elcock stopped in five rounds in a challenge for Abraham’s IBF title) I wanted to put on a dazzling display for my fans and I was more than confident that I would retain my British Middleweight Title, now I have to wait for my chance in the coming months”.
Elcock sprang an upset when outpointing former two-time world title challenger Howard Eastman to capture the British crown last September.
