Kevin Mitchell to pass on European title opportunity?

It would appear that Kevin Mitchell has relinquished his mandatory challenger’s position to challenge European super-featherweight champion Sergey Gulyakevich. The contest was ordered by the EBU who stipulated a March 22nd deadline for both parties to come to a private arrangement before the fight would go out for purse bids.

However since then the current EU champion Vitaly Tajbert has been installed as Gulyakevich’s mandatory challenger, presumably replacing Mitchell, and the EBU have subsequently set a deadline of May 16 to receive purse offers to stage Gulyakevich-Tajbert. Read the rest of this entry »
