Kevin McIntyre has spoken exclusively to UKFightNews about his bitter disappointment following the British Boxing Board of Control’s decision to strip him of his British welterweight title after he was forced to pull out of his scheduled British title defence against mandatory challenger Kell Brook for a second time due to a back injury.
McIntyre vs Brook was originally pencilled in for May 3rd but had to be postponed when McIntyre injured his back. The contest was rescheduled for this Saturday (June 14) at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, but when McIntyre pulled out for a second time the Board wasted no time in stripping the Scot of his title. As a result, Brook will contest the now vacant British title against Wales’ Barry Jones at the weekend leaving McIntyre disconsolate.
Speaking exclusively to UKFightnews.co.uk, McIntyre said: “I feel extremely let down by the British Boxing Board of Control’s actions as i have been in training for two weeks now having fully recovered from my injury. I have kept my weight in check and made them aware I could still fulfill my defence within the June period but the 14th was just too soon.”
McIntyre continued: “I provided them with two doctors notes as well as a physio report which they (The Board) later asked for.” Read the rest of this entry »
