Warren wary of Gomez’s threat to Khan

Promoter Frank Warren, writing in his weekly column in the Sun newspaper, has refused to discount Michael Gomez’s chances of destroying Amir Khan’s unbeaten record when the pair clash at Birmingham’s NIA Arena tonight for Khan’s Commonwealth lightweight crown.

“I managed and promoted him (Gomez) when he first turned professional and he lost two of his first three fights. Yet even at that stage, I could see the hunger in his eyes and persevered with him. Elcock retains British middleweight title in unsatisfactory fashion

The eagerly awaited Midlands derby between Birmingham’s Wayne Elcock and Dudley’s Darren McDermott was abruptly ended in the second round when McDermott was stopped after sustaining a nasty cut below his left eye following an accidental clash of heads.

The result saw Elcock retain his British middleweight crown in unsatisfactory circumstances in front of a disappointed crowd at a packed Wolverhampton Civic Hall. Read the rest of this entry »
