Scott Haywood will contest the English light-welterweight title against Dean Harrison on the undercard of Rendall Munroe’s European title defence at the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham on Friday. John Fewkes’ meeting with Martin Gethin for the vacant English lightweight title bolsters an impressive bill.
Derby’s Haywood, 18-2 (4), had been pencilled in to challenge champion Nigel Wright for the title but Wright has been forced to pull out through illness and has subsequently vacated the English crown. Read the rest of this entry »

Promoter Frank Maloney has defended the decision of his fighter John Fewkes to turn down a career best pay day of £40,000 to be Amir Khan’s opponent in Manchester on Saturday night.
Instead, Fewkes will challenge fellow unbeaten prospect Martin Gethin for the vacant English crown at Nottingham’s Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre on Friday, for considerably less money than what he would have received by taking on Khan. Read the rest of this entry »

The British Boxing Board of Control have ordered a rematch between Danny Williams and John McDermott following their controversial meeting in July which saw Williams retain his British heavyweight title on a majority points verdict, despite being deducted three points by referee by Dave Parris for separate infringements. The contest must take place by the end of December 2008.
